How to make Peanut free Reece's peanut cups (wow butter cups)

I don't know about anyone else but whenever I walk into a supermarket I always seem to come across "Reece's peanut butter cups". As my nut allergy started later in life I have tasted these and thought they were really nice. Peanut allergies really do make everything so much more difficult! Today I decided to trial making my own version of them however the difference being they are completely peanut free :)

Things you will need: 

• Chocolate (I decided on Tesco baking chocolate however you could use any type you like)
• Wow Butter (I used crunchy however smooth would work just as well)
• Icing sugar 
• Muffin cases (I used 6 big ones however you could use more or less and just adjust the amounts of things used)

Method:

Melt half of the chocolate. Place 2-3 spoonfuls into the base of each muffin case. Once completed place the muffin cases into the fridge and leave for 5-10 minutes until it is solid

Mix together the same amount of icing sugar as wow butter. Depending on how much wow butter you want inside the cups depends on how much you would use (I personally used enough to fill each muffin case with 1 teaspoonful).

Bring the now solid chocolate muffin cases out of the fridge and spoon the mixture of icing sugar and wow butter on top of the solid chocolate. Place these back in the fridge for another 5-10 minutes.

Bring the muffin cases back out of the fridge and melt the remaining half of the chocolate. Share it out evenly between each muffin case spreading it over over the wow butter so there is none showing. Place it back in the fridge for another 5-10 minutes and enjoy!

I may have allergies but they don't have me!

I think it's a great way to show that allergies and anaphylaxis do not define you as a person and do not have to stop you doing things that you want to do and enjoy

Warrior Beads (my medical journey in one picture)

I came across something called "Warrior Beads" last month after 2 of my facebook friends posted pictures with theirs. Warrior Beads is very similar to Beads of Courage. For anyone unsure on what this is, it's mainly based in America (however is also available in the UK for children with cancer). It's a way of helping a child tell their medical journey in a fun, positive and colourful way. They receive a glass bead for going through things medically. Unlike Beads of Courage, Warrior Beads has no age limit, no limit on which countries can apply and no medical conditions are excluded (both mental and physical).

I choose to back date mine to the start of my medical journey (2008 with essential tremor/2009 with asthma) however you can choose the date in which to start yours. I guessed a great deal of the things as some of the categories were too challenging to give a proper answer on. There's a colour of bead for basically everything!

These are my Warrior Beads:

In this picture I have 2,814 beads. Each bead represents something I have gone through medically. You also receive special beads for reaching 50 and 100 within any colour of bead as well as special beads of medical milestones and everyday accomplishments. 

Illness is something that is so negative. It causes you to go through a great deal of both emotional and physical pain and hurts those closest to you. Warrior Beads brings a positive out of every negative experience I have been through. Some may not understand how a mass quantity of beads can mean so much to me but they mean more than words can say. They show me how strong a person I have been and continue to be. I have been through a great deal medically, and it's shown visually using warrior beads, however it helps me to see just how brave and strong I truly have been. I've gotten through so much and will continue to fight :)

Breathease cleaning products review

I seem to be really into the reviews lately. I think it's due to being super happy about finding products which are great for allergy sufferers and wanting to share them with the world!

This blog is going to be a review (yet another I do apologise haha). It was my mum who initially found this company and introduced me to them. The company is 'Breathease'. The description on their facebook page reads:

"Breathease® is a range of household cleaners developed specially for people with Asthma and Allergies."

As well as suffering from multiple allergies and anaphylaxis I also suffer from Brittle Asthma (a severe form of asthma). My asthma is triggered by numerous things with one of them being household cleaners. A lot of them carry a very distinctive smell that causes a lot of coughing and wheezing on my part. Breathease first became popular a few years ago and my mum found out about it when Asthma UK mentioned it on their facebook page. She decided to try it and I found it did not carry the same smell that most cleaning products do.

When I moved into student accommodation in September last year my mum gave me a bottle of Breathease to take with me so that when cleaning my bathroom etc. I would have a cleaning product in which I could use without any issues. I have found it to be a life-saver. I know with even using bleach to clean my toilet it can sometimes be too much for my asthma so it's great to have something I can use without any worries. 

Breathease have a variety of different products to suit your needs. They have a: bathroom cleaner, kitchen cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner, shower and tile cleaner and window and glass cleaner. 

I would recommend this product to not only those who find the smell of cleaning products sets off their asthma but anyone with airway issues as I find it truly does make a difference. It's definitely worth trying at least once to see if it makes a difference.

Nut Free Chocolate People review

First off I want to start this blog off by apologising for not writing this sooner. Unfortunately I have spent the past few months in and out of hospital and fitting in blogging with this has proven to be difficult.

So now to get on to the actual blog. After I wrote my review on the 'Just Love Food Company' cakes I was approached by a lady who runs her own business selling nut free chocolate. It's called 'Nut Free Chocolate People'. I'd never heard of the company until she messaged me on facebook. I am extremely glad that I was asked to review their chocolate as it was very delicious and tasted great with a completely nut free reassurance.

The 3 items together

I was sent 3 different items of chocolate. The first (the one on the right) was the 'milk chocolate with fudge bar'. The second (the one in the middle) was a box of the 'Tea Time Delights'. The third (the one on the right) was a bag of the 'Easter Selection'.

Looking at the first item (milk chocolate with fudge bar) the first thing I noted was that it looked really tasty (this was before I even opened the packaging. It was packaged in a clear plastic bag with a sticker on it telling you what the item is as well as highlighting the nut free part of it. On opening the bag the chocolate smelled really good. It had lots of fudge chunks in it and definitely looked super yummy. On tasting it it was just as good as it looked! It was creamy, smooth and melt in the mouth. I'd highly reccommend it to anyone who loves chocolate and fudge.

The second item came packaged in a white box. It looked really professional looking and it was great to see a box of chocolates that was nut free as in shops or online it's pretty impossible to find a box of chocolates which are nut free as due to the selection of chocolates within it they either have nutty chocolate within the box or they carry a high risk of cross contamination. Again there was a sticker stating what the item was and highlighting the nut free part.

 On opening the box the chocolates look amazing! There were two different parts which each contained 6 chocolates each. They were adorable designs which replicated teapots, clocks, honey pots etc. Again, like the milk chocolate with fudge bar, the chocolate smelled really good. It was very melt in the mouth and moreish. These definitely didn't last very long!

 The third, and last, item came packaged in a clear plastic bag. Like the above 2 items it carried a sticker letting you know what the item was as well as, once again, highlighting the nut free part. The chocolate, again, looked really nice and I couldn't wait to try it,

Within the 'Easter Selection' there were chocolate rabbits, Easter eggs and ducks. They were a super cute design and suitable for children and adults alike! These also did not last very long as they were great tasting and very yummy.







After receiving this, tasting it and highlighting how great it was my mum ordered me an Easter egg and another bag of Easter Selection for an Easter present as due to chocolate either having nuts in it or carrying a 'may contain' warning it's difficult to find holiday chocolate in which I can eat. 'Nut Free Chocolate Company' do many different types of chocolate including holiday chocolate which is great as who doesn't love a bit of chocolate at holiday time?

They are a great company who I can not highlight enough. They are very caring and put a lot of work into their chocolate and produce. Their prices are also great for the totally nut-free reassurance you get and are something every nut allergy sufferer should invest in at least once.

Just Love Food Company's nut-free cupcakes!

I have been meaning to write this blog for a few weeks now but due to being really busy with things I have not gotten around to it.

In my last blog I wrote about my experience with the amazing company 'Just Love Food Company' (if you haven't read that blog and would like to here is the link: http://adifferentsortoflife.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/just-love-food-company.html). Just to write a short summary of what 'Just Love Food Company' are: they are a company which supply nut free cakes which can be bought in supermarkets as well as directly from them and can be personalised. After writing this blog I shared it with the companies facebook page and not only did they post it on their page for their followers to see but they offered to send me some of their nut free cupcakes for me to review! I happily accepted their offer and the cakes arrived a few days later.

I got them delivered to my student accommodation and was expecting 12 cupcakes at the most but I was given 48 in total! There were 4 boxes in total with 12 cupcakes in each. There were 6 with red icing on the top and 6 with yellow icing on the top. I decided I could not eat 48 cupcakes to myself so decided to share them with others. My mum and her fiancée got a box of 12, I left a box of 12 in my flat's kitchen for my flat mates to eat and gave some to my boyfriend's parents and his sister. My boyfriend helped me with the remaining ones I had.

On first inspection of them they looked lovely. They were nicely presented in a box in rows of red and yellow (see picture to left). The colours were very vibrant and they looked yummy.








On opening the box each cupcake was wrapped in it's own individual packaging which would be greatly suited to parents looking for something for their child's lunch box. I also noticed the best before date on the box was nearly a month later which is great for having something that lasts a while. The cupcakes can also be frozen which means they last even longer! As soon as I received them I was eager to try one of each colour.

I first tried one of the red cupcakes. They smelled delicious and looked even better! There is a sponge on the bottom of each with some lovely cream in the middle and to top it all off some lovely red icing. The cupcake was amazing! I personally would say it was one of the best tasting cupcakes I've ever encountered. The sponge was very fluffy and moist and it tasted lovely. The icing tasted similar to the red icing used in their Angry Birds cake (see my original blog posted above). I found it to not be too sickly and was "finger-licking good"!

Next I moved onto the yellow cupcake and alike the red it smelled great and tasted even better! The icing tasted different but was still as mouth-wateringly good. Like the red cupcake the sponge was very light and fluffy.









It's not just me who thinks the cakes taste great! My mum wrote on 'Just Love Food Company' facebook page:

"They are absolutely fantastic really yummy, light and fluffy and make a wonderful alternative to a standard cupcake. I shall definitely purchase more of your products. It's really nice to see cakes suitable for allergy sufferers as I have struggled in the past to find manufacturers who produce nut free goods. Thank you and I look forward to tasting some off you're other creations." 


These cupcakes can be bought in batches of 12, 24, 48 etc. They are priced at £20 for 48 cupcakes but they are amazing value for money! They taste great, last long and are 100% nut free guaranteed. I would highly recommend this company. I give their cupcakes a 10/10.

A major issue for those suffering with nut allergies is that so many desserts are off the menu. Although this can do wonders for the waist line it is always lovely to have a treat now and then. I have suffered with a nut allergy for the best part of 5 years now and the most difficult thing about it has been the transition of going from eating anything sweet I wanted to being extremely limited within my diet.

This blog post is dedicated to an amazing company I have found. Most companies cannot guarantee that their food is nut free. This is due to them using nuts within the same factory so there is a risk, all be it small, of cross contamination from food that has nuts used within it to food that is supposedly "nut free". Before it used to always be about 'Fabulous Baking Boys'. They were completely nut free and did not use any nuts within their foods so it was a safe haven for nut allergy sufferers and their families. However late last year they delivered a blow which would change the way that nut allergic people could eat. They were changing their products and were going to begin to produce nut products. This in turn meant that their nut free no longer would exist. Since this happening the company 'Just Love Food Company' has become really popular amongst nut allergy sufferers. They have been around for a while but it has only been lately that they have become more prevalent and known about. Just Love Food Company ensure nut free. They do not use nuts in their factory, they also source ingredients which are 100% nut free. So despite Fabulous Baking Boys introducing a nut line all is not lost.

Just Love Food Company provide nut free birthday cakes. They also have began to start providing cakes for other occasions as well as cup cakes so those with nut allergies do not have to lose out. They make a range of different products to serve the ever-growing population of nut allergy sufferers. There are cakes designed for children but also cakes suitable for adults.

I have personally tried out two of their birthday cakes and I have no other word but fantastic to describe them.

The first is the 'Angry Birds Cake'. The cake contains 16 servings and is great for birthday parties of children and adults alike. The cake was served to not only me but all the family and friends whom were present at the particular birthday party. They all loved it and couldn't believe it was nut free. I think people believe that if something is 'free-from' it will taste horrible but this cake is far from it. It has a lovely light and fluffy sponge with jam and cream filling that tastes like any other cake on the market so there is defiantly no missing out. The icing is very tasty too and is not too sweet or sickly. This particular cake can be found in the following supermarkets: Tesco, Nisa, Asda and Tesco (Wales).


The second is the 'Happy Birthday Cake'. The cake is smaller than the 'Angry Birds Cake' as it contains 8 servings but it still tastes as fantastic! It again has a lovely jam and cream filling and the icing is not too sickly or sweet. It was recently my 21st Birthday and I ended up having 3 of these cakes over a period of a week (not all to myself though haha). I had one when I went out with my parents for a meal and they had some too and found it very yummy. The next day I had another with some friends I went out for a meal with and they also had some and thought it tasted great. The third I had at my birthday party. A Costco cake was bought for everyone else and I had this cake. I personally feel that Costco cakes are very sickly (I think it's the icing that's the problem) so I was more than happy to have a nut-free cake. I enjoyed the cake very much and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a yummy nut-free cake. This particular cake can be found in the following supermarkets: Tesco, Nisa and Tesco (Wales).

Although they are getting better known they still do not, in my opinion, have the ultimate coverage they deserve. I would give this company a 5 star rating as they are an amazing and very caring company that truly do go the extra mile. I really could not recommend them more.
